Scatter, Downer, Cassette Sim and the rest were tuned A/B against an SP-404 MK2 until they landed in the same place — the cyclic slowdown on Downer, the musical step pattern on Scatter, the tone-stack and dropouts on Cassette Sim. It's a from-scratch take, not a copy of Roland's code.

Tap the scope and it cycles. On desktop, right-click to change its color ramp, and hit the arrows in the corner to pop it out onto its own window, which you can drag as big as you want or throw full screen on the display behind you. Close QuotaFX and the scope stays up.

The raw waveform, trigger locked, so shapes hold still instead of crawling sideways.
Log frequency, low to high. Here it is Ka-Ne turning a hat into a chord.
A goniometer. Mono runs up the middle, stereo blooms out to the sides.
Every frame stacked behind the last one, receding. Ka-Su-Mi drifting into weather.
A spectrogram. Watch a filter sweep move as a band. This one is Bad Rip eating the file.

Same three knobs, whatever you punch in
Six new effects landed in 1.2. Every one of them lands on the same surface, in the same place, so nothing under your hand moves when you change your mind.
Punch it and the last chunk plays back at you backwards, then hands the beat back. It grabs on the grid, so the throw lands musically no matter when you hit it. Ride the length while it runs.
A rack of tuned strings. Feed a hi hat in and it rings out a chord. Pick a root, pick the interval set, and percussion becomes harmony.
The file barely survived. Dropouts, stuck buffers, and the smear you get off a rip of a rip. One knob for how broken.
Sprays the incoming audio into grains and lets them drift. Two bars turn into weather. The pitch scatter stays consonant instead of turning to soup.
Hold for CTRL 4 to 6
Hold the button under CTRL 3 and the same three knobs become 4, 5 and 6. Let go and they snap back, so you can reach the back page in one motion without taking your other hand off anything. Tap it instead and it latches, because a mouse cannot hold a button and turn a knob at the same time. Play it held, edit it latched.
On a touchscreen they are strips
A rotary hides its own pointer under your thumb, and the drag is indirect: you move in a straight line and guess at how far it turned. A strip is a direct grab the full width of the slot, and you can see the value you are holding. They do not jump to your finger either, so a stray touch cannot throw a live parameter across its whole range mid take.
Color-code every instance
Fifteen presets, or build your own from two colors. Eight are dual-tone: Grape, Ember, Solar, Acid, Mint, Ice, Bubble, Mono. Seven are faceplates that put a dark panel behind one accent, the way a piece of hardware does it: Gunmetal, Terminal, Graphite, Slate, Ink, Chalk, Bone. The theme recolors the whole UI, scope included, and saves with the instance so you can tell your drum bus from your vocal chain at a glance.

Will it run in my DAW?
Yes — QuotaFX is an AU / VST3 plugin (and a standalone app), so it loads in any modern DAW. No SP-404 or any hardware required, and you can run as many instances as you want across your session.
How close is it to the SP-404 MK2?
The SP-404 MK2 was the inspiration, and several effects — Vinyl Sim, Cassette Sim, Scatter and others — were modeled by ear against it. But QuotaFX is its own instrument: its own look, its own control layer, and effects that were never on the SP. It started at 26, it is at 44 now, and it grows with updates.

Can I map a hardware controller?
Yes. Hit MAP, wiggle a knob or pad, and you're mapped. The CTRL macros and the 16 favorites map as separate classes, so a fader bank and your pads don't fight over the same controls. CTRL 1 through 6 keep their mapping across every effect, so one pass sets up your whole controller.
